Your surgeon will give you an anesthetic if you have a bone biopsy. This may be a general anesthetic (you're asleep during the operation and feel no pain). Or it may be a local anesthetic that completely blocks feeling from the infected area, but you will be awake during the operation. The biopsy will be sent to a laboratory for testing.
