A potential complication of alcohol abuse is delirium tremens which may occur with acute alcohol withdrawal. This causes symptoms, e. g shaking, sweating, diarrhea and seizures. It may also cause anxiety, confusion, paranoia and hallucinations (where you see and /or hear things that aren't there). Delirium tremens requires urgent medical attention as it can be life threatening.
