JIA may affect your child's general growth. It's possible that your child's affected limbs may develop at different rates. Eg, if the arthritis is particularly bad in one knee the affected leg may be slightly shorter. Anaemia may also be a problem. Anaemia is when there are too few red blood cells or not enough haemoglobin in the blood. There is a risk that your child may develop inflammation of the eyes(uveitis).Make sure s/he has regular eye checks with an ophthalmologist(who specialises in eye health), even if s/he doesn't have any obvious symptoms. There is a risk that systemic JIA may affect internal organs, eg the tissue that covers the heart, liver or spleen. Children with systemic JIA may need to have regular check-ups.
