In children, rectal prolapse usually resolves itself. Your doctor will give you advice on how to get your child into a regular bowel routine. You can do this by ensuring that your child has plenty of fruit and vegetables in their diet, as well as foods containing fibre and drinking enough water. Your GP will also advise you to push your child's rectum back into their anus when it prolapses.
