If you're born with an abnormally curved spine, it's called congenital scoliosis. The cause of this is the non-symmetrical development of the vertebrae. Sometimes 2 vertebrae are fused (joined together) on one side and as the person grows the spine becomes curved. The curve is usually obvious before the child reaches adolescence.
