Human cytomegaloviral disease can cause various complications in a healthy adult, eg prolonged fatigue, pneumonia, hepatitis, blood clotting disorder and anaemia, skin eruptions, meningoencephalitis and disease of the heart muscle. In healthy adults this is usually mild and requires little or no treatment. It can cause infections in patients with AIDS and suspected of potential to cause abnormality of foetus.
