Surgery may be an option for Barrett's oesophagus. There are two reasons for suggesting it: first, to strengthen the valve at the bottom of your oesophagus preventing further reflux (if treatment with medicines hasn't been enough to help your symptoms). Secondly, to remove the abnormal cells in your oesophagus-if tests show the cells are continuing to change and there is thought to be a risk of them progressing to cancer.
