There are many ways to protect yourself from HIV, such as abstinence, being faithful to one partner who you have tested with, or using condoms EVERY TIME you have sex. Condoms can provide protection from HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) as long as they are used correctly each time you have sex. HIV positive pregnant mothers can use a PMTCT program to prevent passing HIV to their baby. Avoid alcohol and drug abuse, as this can lead to unprotected sex with a partner whose HIV status you don't know. Also avoid sharing needles and razor blades with others, as this increases your risk of getting HIV.
