Anemia is a common blood problem caused by lack of a natural chemical called hemoglobin, which carries oxygen around the body. Anemia can cause shortness of breath, paleness or general weakness. Anemia is common in pregnant women, which can be serious as it can prevent the baby from growing properly, cause premature (early) birth, still birth and lowered immunity/infection in the mother.
