Soon after birth the baby is given vaccines against polio and TB. At 6, 10 and 14 weeks they are immunised against polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B and Haemophilus Influenzae type b illness. At 6 months and every 6 months until the baby is 5, it is given vitamin A supplement to prevent blindness and strengthen resistance against other diseases. At 9 months, the child is immunised against measles. Children must be immunised 5 times before they are 1 year old, complete the recommended doses on schedule and participate in mass immunization during any disease outbreak.
