Albinism is an inherited condition where there is lack of pigment called melanin, which normally gives colour to the skin, hair and eyes. Albinism cannot be transmitted but can be inherited from both parents. With little or no pigmentthe child's skin, eyes and hair may be colourless. Albinism cannot be cured but actions can be taken to improve quality of life for those affected. Protect the eyes from bright lights to improve vision. Due to lack of skin pigment albinos are more likely to get skin cancer so avoid excessive sunlight.
