Symptoms of sickle cell disease, most commonly pain in the hands, feet, belly, back, joints or chest that may last for hours or days, usually start in childhood. Pain happens when sickle cells get stuck in blood vessels and block the blood flow. People with the disease often have anemia, jaundice(yellowish look in the eyes) and leg ulcers. If well managed, people with sickle cell disease can live healthy lives. Seek diagnosis and treatment from the nearest health unit if you present these symptoms.
