Abstinence is a promise to yourself that you will not have sex for a particular period of time. Some abstain until they're married, graduate from high school or are in a committed relationship and it feels right to have sex. You can keep abstaining by being focused on what you want to achieve in life, having good friends who respect their bodies, knowing your HIV status by going for a test and understanding the possible negative consequences of sex which are HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancy.
