Apnoea causes - Prematurity
Apnoea in a premature baby could be due to immaturity. The brain controls breathing. If the part of the brain that controls breathing is immature, the baby is likely to have inconsistencies in breathing and periods during which breathing may stop momentarily. The lungs are also underdeveloped in premature babies.
