Causes
Stretch marks are a result of skin overstretching. Increased levels of cortisone, a hormone produced by the adrenal gland, weaken the skin fibres exacerbating the situation. High cortisone levels may be due to medication, disorders of the adrenal glands and Cushing's syndrome.
