Complementary feeding - Proteins

Meat, poultry and fish are good sources of protein and iron. Suggested foods are beef, pork, veal, chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, liver, lamb or well cooked legumes(peas, beans, lentils) and egg yolk. Egg white has a tendency to cause allergic reaction and should be avoided before the age of twelve months. Add one meat or an alternative (such as legumes) at a time. Wait three to four days before you add a new one. This gives you time to check for allergic reactions. Avoid processed meats such as sausages because they are high in salt and fat. Your health care provider can help you identify locally available sources of proteins.
