Poisoning - Household poisons

All kinds of detergents and cleaning products contain chemicals that are poisonous. Most of these are found in the kitchen and bathroom. Medicines, herbal remedies, vitamins and cosmetics contain harmful substances (such as alcohol) that may poison a child. Remember that children are less tolerant than adults and even a small quantity may be poisonous. Remote controls for electronic equipment may contain small mercury batteries, which can cause poisoning if swallowed. Cigarettes and tobacco are often left lying around. Tobacco, in all forms, is an extremely dangerous poison and just one cigarette stub may poison a child. Alcohol and wine are also very dangerous and even a small amount of alcohol can be harmful to a young child. Many houseplants and garden plants are poisonous if eaten. Decorating materials, paint, methylated spirits, turpentine, plant fertilizer, weedkiller, fire lighters are other substances that can be found in a home and are all extremely poisonous.
