Malaria in children - Treatment

Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy(ACT) is the treatment recommended for malaria. These drugs are available in the form of tablets and can even be used in young children. If your child has severe or complicated malaria, the health care provider may recommend inpatient treatment. The treatment of complicated malaria involves drugs given through the vein. Pregnant women will require a special treatment that is safe for the unborn baby. It is very important that you complete the prescribed treatment to reduce incidences of drug resistance.
