CPR - Introduction

Unconscious people require a more advanced level of care. An infant/child is unconscious if they don't respond by moving, crying or talking after tugging their hair or shaking their arm. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure performed to unconscious people in an effort to manually keep the brain and other vital organs alive until further measures are taken or the body is able to do it on its own. It can only be performed to unconscious people with no breathing or with abnormal breathing and poor circulation. CPR should only be performed by a person who has been trained in an accredited CPR course and certified to perform CPR. Therefore, the guidelines offered here are to be used only as a reference.
