Diarrhoea in children - Classification

Diarrhoea can be classified into three types. Diarrhoea that lasts for several hours or days is called acute watery diarrhoea. Examples of acute watery diarrhoea include cholera. Diarrhoea that lasts for more than two weeks is called chronic or persistent diarrhoea. If the stools have blood in them, then it's called acute bloody diarrhoea or dysentery.
