Fever self-help - Fluids

A child with a high temperature needs more liquid than usual because the fever will make them sweat a lot. Breastfeeding should continue. Most children will have a reduced appetite when they are not well.
Provided they drink plenty of liquids, it won't matter too much if they eat very little for a couple of days. Try giving small amounts of cool fluids frequently – a teaspoonful every few minutes, if necessary. Your child is at risk of dehydration if they are not taking enough fluids or if they are vomiting a lot. Take your child to the nearest health facility if you notice reduced tears and dry eyes, dry lips, reduced urine output or too concentrated urine or if your child is unable to drink and eat.
