Hypertension complications - Baby

Hypertension affects the way the placenta supports the baby. Due to the stress exerted on the baby, their growth may be compromised leading to lesser weight than normal. Due to its severity and unpredictable nature, a preterm delivery may be recommended; babies born before term may suffer from breathing problems and prematurity. They may be at a higher risk of having developmental and learning problems later in life. Babies born to hypertensive mothers have a risk of developing hypertension in their later life.
