Physiological jaundice

After birth, the baby's liver takes over from the placenta the job of removing bilirubin from the body. As the liver gets used to its new job, the levels of bilirubin may go high. The kind of jaundice resulting from this is called physiological jaundice. It usually occurs from the third to fifth day of your baby's life and should disappear without causing any problems.
