Vaccines - Haemophilus influenzae type B

The Haemophilus influenzae type B(Hib) vaccine provides immunity against diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type B bacteria. Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) is the bacteria responsible for severe pneumonia, meningitis and other invasive diseases almost exclusively in children aged less than 5 years. This vaccine may also be found in combination with the DPT vaccine. If this combination is used, your child will need to have a three course dose at 6 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks. Your health care worker can advice you on the right course.
