Edema in pregnancy - Causes
Standing for a long period of time and/or long periods of activity may cause swelling in pregnant women. Women who consume food containing lots of salt and caffeine and a diet low in potassium have an increased risk of developing swelling during pregnancy. Edema in pregnancy could be a sign of pre-eclampsia, a serious condition that requires urgent medical attention.
