Fever - Critical times

If your child has a fever, you should always have them checked by a qualified health care professional. If they have already been seen and you are at home on treatment, use your instincts to guide you. Any child who is not getting better should be taken back to the hospital. Also, a child who is crying too much and is inconsolable or a child who seems too sleepy and does not wake up easily needs urgent medical attention. Fever is more serious if its accompanied by a stiff neck, talking when asleep, photo-phobia, trouble breathing or if the fever stays above 38ÂșC for more than three days. If your child has just had an operation and starts to have fever, its also a cause for concern. When in doubt, always see your health care provider.
